Each year in December the Mason City Police Department's Local Unit 18 Police Association hosts the "Cops for Kids" program. Our program invites up to 100 Mason City kids to come shopping with a police officer. These kids and their families are less fortunate and the holidays can be a difficult time for these families. The "Cops for Kids" program is able to help these families and builds relationships with them and the Mason City police officers. Each child is given $75.00 for necessities such as boots, coats, and clothing, as well as $25 to spend on a toy or game. This program is funded by generous donations from the public. Without the donations the program wouldn't exist.
