WHEN IT COMES TO EXERCISE, THERE IS BUT ONE TRUTH

BY KAYLA COYLE, TRAINER AND 7 BRIDGES MARATHON STREET TEAM MEMBER

When it comes to exercise, there is but one truth: no one can do it for you. I have said through my many years of experience that you can pay for fitness all day long, but you can't buy your fitness. This is the one thing we have to put the effort in for ourselves, and we have to work hard for it, even after we fork over the money.

That being said, I've come to the conclusion that it's far easier to accept this challenge when engaging methods are utilized and honest goals/expectations are set. Take the time to decide on the activities you want to incorporate into your fitness journey (running, biking, swimming, boxing, dance, etc…) and figure out where you can go to gain access to those activities. Personally, I leaned towards the all-inclusive gym because I had no idea what I wanted to be good at, and now I know that it's "anything at a moments notice." Plus, with a gym you automatically get a fit family to lean on!

Once you've decided what activities you want to try and where, stop. Stop it already! You aren't going to walk into the gym, or go on your first run, and suddenly have abs or shoulders of steel.

You need to know that you've just committed the rest of your life to this. Start small and measure your progress, because you are going to have days that you feel like you've conquered the universe and more days that you feel like your own biggest let down. That's why I recommend you keep your progress and also your goals handy. You never know when you'll need a fit-me-up!

You'll also need to get your knowledge on. Below is a useful resource for nutrition, and a great beginner's guide to fitness.
