Stewardship Project: Building a Boardwalk

Last spring this park project began with two Rangers who wanted to see a change happen in their park, they saw the use their Bay Point Loop Trail was receiving from visitors and were concerned about the sustainability of the trail. Once they took a look at the trail with State Park Trails and Vistas Administrator, Michael Meister, the plan was made to build a boardwalk on parts of the trail that were being destroyed by erosion. The park was then able to partner with the Tennessee State Park Run Club to attain funds to purchase the needed supplies and materials, but that was just the beginning. "After six days of work with eight volunteers, ranging from The Friends of Harrison Bay State Park, camp hosts and off-duty rangers, we have finished the first boardwalk for the Bay Point Loop Trail. All this work does not include the countless Run Club members that have been carrying wood needed for this project up to the trail construction site."

What is next?!
Now we need to raise money for the next portion of the boardwalk! We are hoping this race will raise awareness for the Harrison Bay trails and enough money to finish the much needed boardwalk so park visitors can continue using the beautiful trails without causing more erosion problems.
