Mission: To support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and AlexStrong, and run/walk in honor and memory of Bob Stager, MD (OBGYN at AU) who was diagnosed with advanced T Cell Lymphoma and passed away February 2019.

Dr. Bob Stager was a beloved Obstetrician-Gynecologist at Augusta University Medical Center who spent a large amount of his career providing exceptional care for women and newborn babies of the CSRA. Unfortunately, at the end of 2018, Bob was diagnosed with advanced stage lymphoma. In an ironic twist, he passed away on the day of our inaugural Bob Trot 5K event, February 16, 2019.  In an effort to raise awareness about lymphoma and the impact it has on families, and to honor someone who meant so much to the community, his coworkers, friends and family are hosting the 5th Annual Bob Trot 5K & Fun Run.

The Bob Trot 5K & Fun Run is a family-friendly event that will take place at the North Augusta Greeneway and will course along SRP Park and the Savannah River. All proceeds will go directly to three charities chosen by the Stager family this year:

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, AlexStrong, and Mission 22.

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma and Hodgkin’s disease, improve access to care for all, and to improve the quality of life of patients (like Bob Stager) and their families.

The AlexStrong Foundation is committed to making Alex's legacy of love, perseverance and strength live on. Alex's mom was a patient of Dr. Stager's when she was pregnant with her son, Alex.  Unfortunately, Bob became too ill to deliver Alex...nonetheless, this sweet little boy came into the world on October 9, 2018.  Alex was diagnosed in 2019 with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma at the age of 10 months and unfortunately passed away 1 year later.  AlexStrong raises awareness of childhood cancer with an aim to enable families and patients to make the most of their journeys.  AlexStrong works with hospitals to make patient’s stays, infusions, and times of separation from family more manageable.

Mission 22 is a veteran nonprofit that focuses on three main pillars: veterans, families, and community.  Bob's nurse, Lynn, was a military mom.  She raised two boys that served in the Marines.  Sadly, Lynn's son was lost to suicide on September 21, 2022.  Mission 22 provides free, long-term programs for Veterans that focus on growth and healing, promotes wellness for the whole family, raises awareness for their programs to provide Veterans and their families with the treatment they need.  Their mission eliminates the wait times often experienced by Veterans seeking treatment, and provides help when they need it most: right now. Their programs for Veterans are effective, and provide long-term help and healing for those dealing with post-traumatic stress (PTS), traumatic brain injury (TBI), or military sexual trauma (MST). Their comprehensive program offerings, from Recovery + Resiliency to Amare Wellness, get to the core of persistent issues and help Veterans overcome personal challenges.

The Bob Trot continues to strive to contribute to organizations and families personally connected to Bob Stager and we are proud to give back to these charities this year!
