These three, uniquely themed events will take place in Historic Downtown Upland. Hang out and enjoy live music, check out the vendor village and visit with your friends. Tour de Foothills is more than a ride - it's an EVENT! Featuring routes for all riding levels ranging from fairly flat to EPIC! Whichever ride you choose it's sure to be a great time.
Tour de Foothills started in 2005 with a 50 & 25 mile ride and had 265 riders. Since then, the event has continually grown in ridership to the 1000 plus participation it is today. The Tour de Foothills gained more popularity with the addition of the full century route and the support of its Presenting Sponsor, La Rocque Better Roofs, Inc. in 2010. Registration grew by 250 plus NEW riders. The 2011 Tour saw the addition of the Rest Stop Challenge where sponsors competed against one another for the BEST rest stop which was voted on by the riders. This new concept not only improved the event, but also benefited the riders.
Rock Sports was hired in October to manage the 2012 Tour de Foothills and purchased the 2013 event from the Upland Chamber of Commerce. Timing was added to the 2012 ride with awards for KOM and QOM, which brought out the “BIG GUNS” in local cycling to compete for these titles.
There is a 31 and 62 mile fun ride for those cyclists that are just getting into organized rides. The 31 Mile Fun Ride is fairly flat but has a little challenge. The 62 Mile Fun Ride has the distance without the climbing and is for those that are ready to add miles but not ready to take on the mountain.
The GMR Challenge is meant to be fun or competitive, whatever you make it. The 62 mile ride that includes Glendora Mountain Rd features an 8.2 mile timed climb. This route has 5,600 feet of overall climbing. November features the EPIC Century (100 miles) in addition to the other routes. This Century has almost 11,000 feet of climbing and is for the experienced cyclists and will also be part of the GMR Challenge.
