The Tyler Rose Marathon

The Tyler Rose Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K events.

Location of Start/Finish Line: 
The Tyler Rose marathon will start and end in the Rose Center in Tyler.

Course Time Limit:
The course will be open for 6 1/2 hours. This allows walkers to compete at a 15 minute per mile pace. It does not allow for long stops. We would appreciate all to meet course time limits.

Pace Teams:
We will have pace teams at the Rose marathon. Our leaders will be guiding you to finish times of 3:40, 4:00, 4:20, and 4:40. Our pace teams are staffed and provided by the Dallas Running Club.

Benefiting:
The Tyler Rose Half benefits The UT Tyler Cross Country and Track Teams. UT Tyler's Cross Country and Track athletes are not only great athletes; they are also outstanding students who serve the community. These programs are attempting to make running a premier sport in East Texas. Accordingly, the benefits from this event will be used to improve the team's training, equipment and enhance the level of competition so that student-athletes from all over the state of Texas will want to compete for the Patriots!

Junior Rose Races for the Kids!:
The Junior Rose is designed to encourage young children to enjoy running. We want them to feel the same excitement that the adults feel when running the Rose Marathon. The Junior Rose will take place before the 5k on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at the Rose Garden Center. Entry is free and no pre-registration is required; just show up race day. Children will Parents/guardians are encouraged to accompany kids in all events. For more information, click here.

Packet Pickup and Late Registration:  
Our packet pickup will take place at the Tyler Rose Garden Center at 420 Rose Park Drive in Tyler.

You may register and pay in person at packet pickup. Our packet pickup and late registration will take place the following times for the marathon:

  • Live in the DFW area and want to get your packet before driving to Tyler? Now you can. You can get your packet on Saturday October 5, 2013 (1 week before the event) from 12 Noon to 5 p.m. at our Mellew Production offices at 9770 Skillman St, Dallas, Texas 75243
  • Friday, October 11, 2013 from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, October 12, 2013 from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Race Day, Sunday, October 13, 2013 from 6 a.m. to 7:10am. You will not be able to get your packet after 7:10.

Our packet pickup will be held at the Rose Garden Center at 420 Rose Park Drive in Tyler.

Chip Timing at the Tyler Rose:
The Tyler Rose will use the latest chip timing technology, which records your time precisely from start to finish. Your timing chip will be in your bib. Just put your bib on and you are good to go.

Marathon Finisher Awards:
We are pleased to announce that Chamblee Rose Nurseries of Tyler will be providing the Tyler Rose our very own 4.5 inch potted Tyler Rose to plant where you choose. We are expecting this year's rose plant to be pinkAll marathon finishers will receive a Tyler Rose finisher medal for their efforts in the finish line area. 

At all Mellew Production events, we try to call out everyone's name as you finish.

The Tyler Rose Marathon Age Group Awards:

The top overall and masters male and female will be awarded special trophies. Awards will be presented to the top three men and women finishers in each of the following age groups. 24 & under, 25 - 29, 30 - 34, 35 - 39, 40 - 44, 45 - 49, 50 - 54, 55 - 59, 60 - 64, 65-69, 70+.Overall winners will be based on gun time but age group winners will be determined by chip time.

If you qualify for an age group award when looking at posted results after the event, please go the awards area to get your award. We will not have an award ceremony for our marathon finishers.

Parking:
There will be plenty of free parking next to the Rose Garden Center. Note: to get parking in the lots next to the center you must arrive by 7:25 am. Access to the parking lots will be blocked during the start of all the events. If you arrive after 7:25 you will need to park outside the fairground lots off of Front Street and walk in.

Showers:
We will have a portable shower truck facility available courtesy of the Green Acres Baptist Church in Tyler. Towels and supplies are provided so you can clean up after the event should you so desire.

Travel:
Tyler, Texas is located 80 miles east of Dallas, Texas on I-20. If you are planning to fly to Tyler, American Eagle and Continental have 10 flights daily to Tyler. When booking a flight make sure you out your destination as TYR, rather than a connection through a Texas airport such as DFW. It is more cost effective to do this. You will need to get a rental car in Tyler. There are no hotels next to our start/finish line.

Event Photography: Our official race photographer will be Jerry Glover Photography. Save money on your 2012 pictures and pre order them. 

Hydration Stations: 
We will have 18 aid stations positioned approximately every 1 to 1 1/2 miles.

Medical: 
We will have medical personnel at the start/finish lines and at five different points on both the marathon and half marathon course. We will also have cyclists roaming the course monitoring all runners. All water stations staff are also connected to our communications system, should you need aid just let anyone at a water station know that you need help and they will get medical aid to you.

Should you be unable to finish your distance, we will have event staff in support vehicles that will come and return you to the finish line. If you are running the marathon and complete the first 13.1 miles of the course and you do not finish, you will receive a half marathon finisher medal.

Race Recovery Food Court and Finish Line festival: 
The Tyler Rose will host a post-race party in the Rose Center, which is next to the finish line with plenty of post race food, liquids & activities.

Boston Qualifier? 
Yes.

Entry Requirements:
You must be able to complete the marathon in 6 1/2 hours. Slower runners and walkers who are not able to keep the respective pace will be subject to street re-openings/bridge openings and will need to proceed using sidewalks and road breakdown lanes. The finish line will remain open for 6 1/2 hours, but you will still receive your finisher's medal and official finishers certificate.

You must be at least 16 years old to run the Tyler Rose Marathon.
The following are strictly prohibited from the course: baby joggers, in-line skates, bicycles and any other non-official wheeled vehicles.
