Comics For A Cure is a Superhero themed 5K event. Costumes are a fun addition but are not required.
The run takes place in the lovely Falconbridge subdivision in Durham NC. This is a fun course with a few hills and curves. There is a water station approximately half way through. Volunteers litter the course to keep participants on the right path. There may even be some special volunteers along the way to help keep you entertained! Race is certified by the USA Track and Field association, a part of the Triangle Race Series and professional race timing is provided by Precision Races.
The race is only the kick start to an entire day of fun activities. May sixth is National Free Comic Book Day and Ultimate Comics parties hard. There will be free comic books for all (your race bib is a pass to the front of the line). The Free Comic Book Day Bash changes a little from year to year (always getting bigger and better). Offerings from previous years have included live music throughout the day as well as free food and drinks of both the adult superhero and the underage sidekick varieties.awesome store sales, face painting, martial arts demos and (blade free) sword battling for kids, comic book artists drawing free sketches, comic creators signing autographs and plenty of super hero photo ops.
This is truly an epic family friendly party that predates the Comics For A Cure race!
PLEASE NOTE: Post race activities and offerings are provided by and managed by Ultimate Comics and not Comics for a Cure.
This year, shirts will be an optional purchase. Enjoy a cheaper discounted rate and YOU choose whether or not you pay for a shirt (but I have to say, the shirts are AWESOME!)
Early Packet Pickup will be announced as details are available.
The start/finish line will be at Ultimate Comics at 6120 Farrington Rd, Durham.
Although things will get REALLY busy that morning, the run starts an hour before the FCBD festivities. You can park in the adjoining strip mall. There shouldn't be any trouble with parking for the race but, of course, the earlier you show up, the better the parking situation will be.
Can't wait to see everyone on race day!!
