Fundraising 5K run/walk for Lebanon Kids after school program and McKendree University Sport Management Society. Proceeds will go toward after school snacks and summer camps for Labanon Kids and will be used to send McKendree Sport Management students to converences and networking events.
Mission of Let’s Get Physical 5K
Let’s Get Physical 5K Run/Walk, will raise money for Lebanon Kids, Inc., and the McKendree Sport Management Society. Lebanon Kids will benefit through new equipment, after-school snacks, and a potential opportunity for a summer camp. Sport Management Society helps Sport Management majors gain experiential learning opportunities, campus visits with sport management practitioners, and eventually, scholarship opportunities for outstanding students with significant financial need.
History Of McKendree Sport Management and McKendree Race Day
2017 marks the third year of both a hands-on, experiential learning Sport Event & Facilities Management course and its fundraiser. Over the past two years the Sport and Event Facilities Management course has hosted successful cornhole tournaments. The class this year will take over the McKendree Race Day event, previously hosted by the McKendree Intramural department, to support the McKendree University Sport Management Society, a student group and the Lebanon Kids Inc., an after-school elementary student program.
Developing, planning, executing, and evaluating the Let’s Get Physical 5K race helps Sport Management majors put their classroom learning to use and understand “real world” scenarios; it also gives students sales, marketing, and sponsorship experiences, as well as networking opportunities outside of the classroom.
History Of McKendree Sport Management Society
Like many college majors, practical experience outside the classroom is an essential part of a Sport Management major’s learning; as a result, students recently founded the McKendree Sport Management Society. In just its third year, students have gained valuable skills at events like the NCAA Division II Wrestling National Championship, the Missouri Valley Conference men’s basketball tournament, and the Great Lakes Valley Conference basketball tournament. Planned future experiences include trips to NFL, MLB, NBA, and NHL events, the Big Ten Conference men’s basketball tournament, and a variety of NCAA Championship events.
History Of Lebanon Kids, Inc.
Lebanon Kids, Inc., is a non-profit organization based in Lebanon, Illinois, that was created primarily to help under-privileged students succeed in school and even beyond school borders. Lebanon Kids Tutoring Program serves students in second through eighth grades. In summer 2017, Lebanon Kids plans to host a summer camp to keep students active, educated, and safe. The fundamental mission in this program is overall to help the youth grow in leadership and positivity, and to help better equip these kids for success in college, the work force or wherever their next step may be.
