Caroline Marie Savitz Foundation

Caroline Savitz, a 25 year old Lake George High School and Ithaca College Graduate, was diagnosed with Epithelioid Sarcoma in November 2014.  Over the past two years the cancer has spread throughout her body and Caroline’s life journey has recently ended.  Through this grueling experience Caroline and her family came to the realization that for young adults the medical field is unprepared in assisting those with cancer or other life altering diagnosis that ultimately affect them medically, psychologically and financially.

Young adults, more often than not, are not in financial positions to manage the enormous cost of medical care, travel and everyday living on their own.  Young adults don’t yet have the life experiences to psychologically understand and manage their emotions of the life altering diagnosis of cancer.  The medical field has made progress but just not enough to combat so many cancers and other diseases that are affecting young adults today.

Because Caroline is, well, Caroline, she knew there was an opportunity to help other young adults.  The Caroline Marie Savitz Foundation has been established by Caroline and her husband Anthony Grace with the sole intention of helping others like Caroline in their community and beyond.  Their mission is to provide young adults, ages 19-27, support through financial, emotional and educational help to ensure they have the best care they possibly can get.

The last three years of Strides Against Sarcoma have been a huge success.  We have donated more than $45,000 to the following: Caroline’s Craft Carts at Glens Falls Hospital, the Sarcoma Foundation of America, and last year, the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society.  This money helped fund a two-year sarcoma research grant through Dr. Matthew DiCaprio, director of orthopaedic oncology at Albany Medical Center. This year 100% of the money race proceeds will again go to:   The Family of Kristen Shinebarger, and the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society.  Thank you so much for your contributions.
