Volunteer 4 MS Events

Raleigh, NC

Volunteers, we need your help!

MS Events & Precision Race organize several events each year to raise money for the National MS Society and ALS Association.

Support the Non-Profit You Choose:

Participants in Bike MS or Walk MS events will receive fundraising credit toward these events.  Precision Race/MS Events will make a donation to the National MS Society in your name.  We will make a donation to the Triangle ALS Association for ALS supporters.  Be sure to indicate which organization/event you are volunteers for when you sign up.

COVID-19 Note:  While COVID restrictions are in place, race procedures are modified for safety.  These changes may evolve as restrictions change, but currently include:

  • Face masks required for all volunteers and all race participants except while running on the course.
  • Staggered arrival/check-in:  Runners sign up for a 30-minute "Arrival Time Window".  They may arrive any time during their 30-minute window, check-in, and head to the start line to run.
  • Water/Food Handling:  Rather than dispensing water into individual cups and handing them out, we are currently using individual water bottles at the water stations and post-race area.  For cycling we offer individual water bottles and individual Gatorade packets.  All food items are individually wrapped.

Events and Volunteer Roles Available:

We currently need volunteers for a variety of role for these upcoming events in the Triangle:

Mamas and Papas Running Race Volunteers:

The Mamas and Papas Mother's and Father's Day 5K races are held at Dix Park in Raleigh on Sunday mornings.  We need volunteers for the following roles for these races:
  • Check-In (7:15 - 10 AM):  Assist runners with race morning check-in.
  • Water station (7:30 - 10:30 AM):  Resupply water bottles on table as they are taken by runners
  • Course Monitor (7:15 - 10:45 AM):  Positioned at a specific intersection on the closed race course, ensure that runners go in the correct direction and no cars enter the course from side streets or parking lots.  Course Monitors must attend a brief safety briefing by Raleigh Police shortly before the start of the race and then head to their assigned spot on the course.  Safety vests are provided and must be worn.  Course Monitors are required by the City of Raleigh to be at least 21 years old.  This position receives the highest fundraising credit.
  • Post-race Food/Drink/Shirts (7:45 - 11:15 AM):  May include:  Resupply water bottles and individually wrapped food items in post-race area.  Hand out shirts to runners based on the shirt size printed on the bib label.  Hand out "treats" to participants such as chocolate roses to moms.
Running event volunteers receive a race volunteer shirt.  Depending on COVID restrictions, the end times for the volunteer positions might be earlier than the times above.

Cup 'n Cone Tour Cycling Volunteers:

The Cup 'n Cone Tour is held at Panther Creek High School in Cary.  We need volunteers for the following roles for these races.  Finish times are estimated.
  • Check-In (7:00 - 8:45 AM):  Assist cyclists with ride morning check-in.
  • Rest Stops (7:30 - 10:30 AM):  You will be assigned to one of two rest stops on the course.  Set up the rest stop.  Resupply water bottles, Gatorade packets, and snack items on table as they are taken by cyclists.  Tear down the rest stop and help load in the truck at the end.
  • SAG Drivers (7:00 - Noon):  Drive YOUR car (with bike rack capable of holding at least 2 bikes and bike pump).  Patrol assigned section(s) of the ride course.  Provide assistance to participants, potentially including providing a bike tube (supplied by us), use of bike pump, or transport of bike and rider to next rest stop or finish.  This position receives higher fundraising credit than most other roles.
  • Truck Crew (6:00 AM - 1 PM):  Two people to drive our supply truck and unload supplies/equipment at each rest station, then pick up remaining supplies/equipment at the end of the ride.  This position receives the highest fundraising credit.
  • Post-race Food/Drink (9:30 - 12:30 PM):  Set up water/food in finish area.  Resupply water/Gatorade.  Distribute frozen ice cream treats and other snacks to riders at the finish area. Pack up and help load in the truck at the end.
Note:  You may sign up for both Check-In and Post-Race Food/Drink for extra fundraising credit.

Thank you for considering volunteering!
