Our mission statement is: “Medical Advocacy & Outreach (MAO) supports the overall health and wellbeing of individuals needing our services, including those living with HIV and substance use disorders, by delivering comprehensive healthcare through medical treatment, behavioral health services, social services, and health and civic education. It is the vision of MAO that every individual we serve will live a full and healthy life filled with dignity and respect.”
Services we provide: specialized HIV treatment and primary medical care; PrEP treatment for HIV prevention; behavioral health counseling, assessments, and referral services, including substance use disorder; in house specialty pharmacy with pharmacist consultations; affiliated general dental practice; social services and case management, including medication cost and access assistance, transportation assistance for clients to and from care appointments; food pantry and housing subsidy referrals; peer-to-peer client support and counselor led support groups; low fee STD/STI testing and treatment; free HIV testing; risk-reducing HIV, Hep C and STI prevention education; care provider professional development; and language interpreter services, including a resident Spanish language translator.
MAO will host TREAD RED, a walk and 5K Runner race in downtown Montgomery on September 24, 2022 to promote awareness of HIV, Hep C, diabetes and other co-existing conditions, including substance use disorder, and raise funds to support HIV care and support services for those requiring MAO’s services across the 28 southern counties of Alabama.
The event will begin and end at the Montgomery Union Station Train Shed. Refreshments available at the finish line.
Registration/packet pick-up from 7:00 AM – 8:00 AM. Opening ceremony at 8:00 AM. Walkers/Runners hit the route at 8:30 AM. Runner registration is $35, including one (1) Runner T-shirt. Walker registration is FREE; however, Walkers are encouraged to donate a minimum of $10 per person. Registered Walkers receive a discount coupon valued at $5 toward the purchase of a t-shirt.
Prizes will be awarded for individuals raising more than $500, as well as special added prizes for teams of six (6) or more. Outside of prize packages, event t-shirts and novelties may be purchased through the online store. Orders received by August 31st are guaranteed for pick-up before the event. Awards will be presented to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place timed Runners. Winning Runners will also be recognized on this website.
All proceeds benefit Medical Advocacy & Outreach (MAO), a 501(c) 3 not-for-profit organization and the more than 2,000 clients living with HIV and other co-existing conditions across 18,675 square miles. Founded in 1987, 2022 marks MAO’s 35th anniversary. Registration fees and sponsorships may be partially tax-deductible. Outright donations are fully tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.
