Join us for a race on Sunday, September 10, 2017 commemorating the life of a runner, Brittany Szwedko. After tragically losing her life while training for her second marathon, we honor the two things Brittany loved most: Dogs and Running by raising funds to support a scholarship in her name.
The measure of life is easy to see…. In the sorrow of those left behind and the reach of the love once shared.
Brittany Szwedko lived a life of love and compassion, which she lovingly shared with her rescue dogs. Her advocacy for animal rights and rescue echoes on, even in her passing. As a celebration of the woman Brittany was, a 5K Run/Dog Walk has been planned in her honor. The race will take place at 9:00 am on September 10th, at Austintown Park, 6000 Kirk Rd., Austintown Ohio.
At Legacy Dog Rescue, we work tirelessly to help the homeless, abused and forgotten dogs of the Mahoning Valley. As part of the 5K Run/Dog Walk we are reaching out for donations to help us commemorate her memory and generous spirit. All proceeds will go towards creating a scholarship in thanks for her life and love of animals.
Come out and enjoy a family-friendly, dog-friendly morning of fun running, or a stroll thru the park with your dog. The 5K race will be timed by All Sports Timing Race Management and will begin at 9:00 am; registration starts at 7:30 am. Dog Walk starts at 9:30 am and will follow a 1 mile course. 1/3 of a mile of the 5K course will be run on grass, the majority of the course is pavement or trails in Austintown Township Park.
Awards will be given after the race. Refreshments will be available as well as concessions for purchase. All proceeds go towards a Brittany Szwedko Memorial scholarship. All pre-registration made before August 10th will be guaranteed a t-shirt. Remaining t-shirts will be given on a first come, first serve basis on race day.
