Run to the Sun founders put their hearts, time, and talent into creating a great fundraising event since 2006!
Run to the Sun is a memorial in honor of Jefferson H. Ridgdill. Jeff born and raised in New Smyrna Beach, he was a graduate of New Smyrna Beach High. Jeff also was a high school teacher who taught social studies, economics and government at Spruce Creek High.
He loved for surfing and he even was known as a local musician and had a band called “Wild Honey”. He spent much of his time sponsoring high school clubs and volunteering for local charities. His endless effort to help others and his passion for youth spread throughout the community.
In 2006 Mr. Ridgdill passed away after a three and a half year battle with pancreatic cancer. In celebration of his life and to continue his work in supporting many different charities Jeff’s daughter, Angi Ridgdill Palmieri, created Run to the Sun. Angi poured her love for her father and his work into this amazing event and has built it over the years to become a much-awaited annual event to honor her father’s work.
He was a huge animal lover and this year his family has chosen the Edgewater Animal Shelter as the recipient of this wonderful fundraising event! A dear family friend was an employee of the animal shelter and she passed away earlier this year. Honoring her and her family is also a part of this year’s event.
We hope you will join us in honoring Mr. Ridgdill and supporting our local shelter!
