The Second Company Governer's Horse Guard (2GHG) is an all-volunteer state organized militia unit,
originally charted in 1808 to protect and escort the Governor. As an active Cavalry unit, 2GHG continues to serve the Governor and State of Connecticut at the direction of the Connecticut Army National Guard, under the command of the Adjutant General.
The main duties of the unit are as a ceremonial unit, partaking in parades and public services to schools, scouting groups and special needs to educate the public about the history of the State of Connecticute. We are a unit of all walks of life including Veterans of our Armed Forces and are ready to serve at a moment's notice should we get called upon!
In addition to our 5K we have extended the race to a 10K to offer more opportunity for the runners and walkers of the community to share our property. it is 80 acres of rolling countryside that is gorgeous! This race also gives participants and spectators another opportunity to come and meet the troopers and a cavalry horse or two. The race is sponsored by the friends of the Second Governer's Horse Guard.
If you are unable to participate you can still make a donation. All of your generous donations go directly to helping support the The 2nd Company Governor's Horse Guard.
